From East Africa to DC Salon Owner; My Challenges & Triumphs!
Tune in to hear Eden share how she came to America, learned the language, and the rules, got her license, started a salon and all of her challenges and triumphs along the way!
Key Takeaways
Being open to learning helps one achieve their goals
Eden went to school 2x before becoming a career stylist
She came to the USA, didn’t know English, cleaned salons & went back to school
After learning all the different parts of the salon working as a stylist (15 years total), she opened a salon, knowing exactly what she wanted and what her culture would be like in her business.
Eden asked her mentor & other salon owners questions to help w/ how to open a salon. She hired professionals to help w/ the lease, design, and construction as well. Accountant, Commercial Real Estate Agent, Business Coach, Lawyer, Designer, Contractor, etc.
The biggest challenge was building a team & learning how to lead
No sacrifices on culture are key
Investors backed out at the last minute & Eden had a family friend help
The lease required her to be responsible 3 years of her payments, so she needed someone to help with the cost of construction.
