No. Shadowing is observing, not working. This is not an internship and it is not a job application. You are welcome to ask to help out if you want to, but it is never expected or required.

Every salon and shop will be a different experience. Primarily, you are there to observe, ask questions, and get a feel for whether the environment is a good fit. You might meet a future employer. You might just leave with a clearer picture of what you want. Both are valuable.

Yes. The Shadow Program is not just for students. Experienced hairstylists and barbers use it to explore what today's salon environments look like before making any decisions. There is no commitment and no one will pressure you. You can explore completely on your own terms.

When you book a session you will fill out a short intake form that asks what you are interested in and a bit about your background. The host salon/shop receives a copy of this so they can be prepared for your visit. You are not required to share anything beyond what is on the form, and there is no pressure to explain your current situation or what you are considering.
Salon/Shop Owner
The Shadow Program is your passive talent pipeline. It connects you with motivated students, hairstylists, and barbers who are genuinely interested in what your salon or shop has to offer, including experienced independent stylists who are looking to return to a team environment.

The Shadow Program is part of our online community, The Stronghold, and is included with the Elite Salon/Shop Owners Membership, which also unlocks education, events, and professional development resources.

Yes. The Shadow Program is included with the Elite Membership inside The Stronghold. Membership is $324.27 per year, which is about $0.89 a day.

The success of this program depends on open and equal access so there are no applications on their end. Everyone who books completes a short intake form that you receive before their visit so you know who is coming and what they are interested in. If you like them and they like you, you can take next steps from there.
All Shadow-Hosts provide the days/hours they are willing to open their doors and we embed a scheduler on your profile. This scheduler sends you email and text notifications of a Shadow booking and gives you the option to add it to your google or apple calendar.

Yes! Sessions are either 2 hours or a half day (4 hours) and you will only ever have one shadower at a time. The limit is based entirely on the availability you provide. If you open two hours on a Tuesday, that is one session. You are always in control of your schedule.

No. Some of our hosts are not actively hiring but participate because they want to stay connected to the local talent community, give back to the next generation, and position their salon or shop as a place people want to work. When the right person does come along, you will already have a relationship.

The Shadow Program, currently, is open to all Cosmetology and Barbering School Students.

You will receive a copy of their intake form before the visit which includes what they are interested in, how long they have been licensed, their specialties, and anything else they choose to share. You will not always know their full story but you will have enough context to prepare for a great session.

The session works the same way. They show up, they observe, and they get a feel for your space and team. The difference is that experienced stylists often come with more specific questions and a clearer sense of what they are looking for.
